Wildwood Beach Patrol proudly hosts the Annual Beach Day with 21 Down from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. The central meeting area will be at Lincoln Avenue and the beach at 10 a.m., in front of Wildwood Beach Patrol Headquarters, at the 20-foot guard tower dubbed “Tower X.” 21 Down is a non-profit, Down Syndrome awareness group serving families, educators and healthcare professionals of Atlantic and Cape May Counties. Their mission is to create awareness and acceptance of people with developmental disabilities while providing information, support and community events for their families. The Beach Day incorporates safe, guarded ocean play time for the children and families of 21 Down, as well as opportunities for interaction and educational opportunities with seasoned lifeguards as they discuss beach safety with attendees. Short breaks for lifeguard style relay races, lunch, cold beverages and ice cream are also provided as beach safety is reinforced. This summer, Fish For Life will take place Saturday, July 20, Saturday, August 17, and Saturday, September 14! Opening ceremonies begin mid-morning to honor our special needs guests. After the speakers, a volunteer will say a prayer followed by the singing of the National Anthem and then we roll out a Red Carpet to individually introduce our honored guests and their chaperones. Seasoned anglers will teach the kids how to catch fish and a Marine Biologist will be aboard to bring an educational opportunity to the experience. Lace up your sneaks and prepare to get muddy in Morey’s Piers first annual Muddy Schnitzel, a family mud run on the beach between Mariner’s and Adventure Piers. The course is about 1 mile long and features over a dozen obstacles, including water pits, an army crawl, king of the dune, and tube scramble. The Borough of Wildwood Crest Mayor’s Wellness Campaign and the Wildwood Crest Recreation Department are sponsoring a community Holiday Lights Walk on Monday, Dec. 18, at 5:30 p.m. Walkers will meet at the corner of Rambler Road and New Jersey Avenue and will take an approximately 30-minute walk along Sunset Lake and the surrounding neighborhood to view the various holiday and Christmas light displays. The walk will be led by Wildwood Crest Mayor’s Wellness Campaign coordinator Laura Farrall. The Holiday Lights Walk is free but registration is encouraged. Those interested are asked to send an email to lfarrall@wildwoodcrest.org. Walkers should wear warm clothes and bring a flashlight. All participants will receive a small holiday gift.
